Hi! My name is Hadassah Garrison, but everyone just calls me Haddie. I live in the growing town of Las Cruces, and I go to Las Cruces High School where I’m a sophomore. There I take many honors classes to keep me challenged. I love playing volleyball, and played as a setter my freshman year.
Children and taking care of them is also something I love, which is why I help in my church nursery, teach Sunday School and babysit regularly. Someday I hope to become a teacher, or maybe have my own daycare center where I can teach kids things they’ll need to know to help them through life. Along with all this, I love spending time with my family and friends.
This is my first year as the teen D.A.R.E. state representative of New Mexico, and I’m very honored to have been chosen. I was first introduced to D.A.R.E. in fifth grade. We learned about drugs and alcohol and how they affect you, but mostly about peer pressure and how to make the right decisions. As kids and teens, peer pressure is always going to be an issue, as well as the desire to be cool.
A few of my goals as the teen D.A.R.E. state representative are to be a good role model, to show kids how to resist peer pressure, and to help them understand you don’t have to drink or use drugs to be cool.
