Rose
Hi! My name is Rose and I live in Bedford, New York, and am currently attending Byram Hills High School as a sophomore. This will be my second year serving on the D.A.R.E Youth Advisory Board for New York State.
My involvement in the D.A.R.E program began in the 5th grade. It was then that I met my D.A.R.E. advisor, Detective Kolarik, known as “Officer Frank” to the kids. It is due to his spirited personality and informative teaching that I feel strongly against the use of drugs and alcohol. Officer Frank truly inspired me to continue with my local D.A.R.E. program.
Since 5th grade I have learned more about drug and alcohol use in my community, and decided to take a step further towards supporting our local D.A.R.E program. As part of my commitment to raise awareness in my community I organized a successful D.A.R.E car wash in which my fellow classmates and I helped raise over five hundred dollars for our local D.A.R.E program.
After I had graduated from the 5th grade D.A.R.E program I was concerned that there was no further education regarding D.A.R.E. One of my goals as the Y.A.B. representative is to expand the D.A.R.E program beyond elementary school through after-school activities in the middle school and high school to further educate those about the negative effects of drug and alcohol use. It is important to sustain the education of the negative effects of drug and alcohol use in order to ensure that our community remains drug and alcohol free.
My attention to the D.A.R.E program and my desire to continue my interest through out high school has lead to my nomination to the New York State’s Youth Advisory Board representative 2009 - 2013.
I am greatly honored to have such a title and am determined to make a difference through my involvement in the Youth Advisory Board. I hope that through my actions I will benefit the lives of youths living locally and nationally. |
