To All MN DARE Officers: An open letter to all

My name is Leonard "Len" Schrader, I am the owner of Schraders Law
Enforcement Supply in Castle Rock, Township.  I was recently on a business trip to San Clemente, CA. 
I stopped in to a Ralphs Grocery Store to pick up a few items. The young lady behind the checkout counter noticed the logo on my shirt, and asked me where Castle Rock MN was.  I told her I was from the Northfield area.  She told me that as a young girl, she attended Le Center Public Schools.  I asked her if she knew a short bald headed Deputy from the Le Sueur County Sheriffs Office. Her eyes brightened and a smile came across her face and she said "Deputy Dave"!  "I love him!!”  "He was so great!"  I asked her, you "Know" him? She said "Oh Yeah!”  She even sang the D.A.R.E. song for me.  I know what Cop's have to deal with on a daily basis, and most of the time you guys are called to trouble spots and not everyone is happy to see you.  I thought it was touching that here was a young lady in her early 20's remembering her D.A.R.E. experience and a song that may have kept her safe, sober, and maybe helped make a better life for herself, so far away from a place she once called home.  Seeing the look on this young lady's face was the kind of reaction you only hope for. I was pleasantly surprised by such a positive reaction with this woman's interaction with the D.A.R.E. organization and this particular officer.  I can't help but think that D.A.R.E. helped her make better choices in her young life.

The second week in August, Minnesota DARE was invited to participate in SuperValu's Northern and Western Region Buyer's Fair at the Minneapolis Convention Center. It was not only a great time to speak with SuperValu's vendors and grocery stores but also SuperValu's employees. SuperValu drove the SuperValu/DARE semi right into the Convention Center and we were given space to display our 2012 winning DARE posters (and other DARE items).

Minnesota D.A.R.E. Announces 2011 Statewide Poster Contest Winners

St. Cloud, MN—Minnesota D.A.R.E., Inc. would like to announce the 2011 Poster Contest winners.  The first place prize is a suite at the April 6, 2011 Timberwolves game donated by the Minnesota Timberwolves. 

This year’s winning entry is from a student at Holy Family School in Albany, his D.A.R.E. officer is Deputy Gina Feldewerd with the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office.
