A picture of my first DARE grads, since I am a brand new DARE Officer. I am pictured with Mrs. Allen and Mrs. Schmidt's 5th grade students from Rockrun Elem. School in Iowa Falls, Iowa. My K9 partner "Ghost" is also in the picture. I was very proud of my 5th grade students and look forward to a long career teaching DARE.

At the Iowa State D.A.R.E. Day celebration the Governor attended and read the D.A.R.E. Day proclamation and D.A.R.E. Officer Sgt Steve Parker of the Des Moines County Sheriff's Office did magic tricks for the children.

Sheriff enjoys a role for 23 years

Mickelson has taught a full generation in D.A.R.E.
In 23 years, Webster County Sheriff Brian Mickelson has seen a generation of kids respond to D.A.R.E.

Regional Director Mike Lien (left) announced at the Iowa Awards luncheon that John Sheahan (right) was selected as the D.A.R.E. Educator of the Year at the D.A.R.E. America International Training Conference held in Nashville, Tennessee.
Additionally, the D.A.R.E. Iowa Board of Directors awarded John a check for $500.00 to honor his work and for his receiving the Educator of the Year award. On behalf of the Iowa Board Mike Lien was also asked to present that check at the
D.A.R.E. Iowa Awards luncheon held on Monday, August 1, 2011 at Luther College, Decorah, IA. |
