Deputy Marla Barnhill
D.A.R.E. is a 10 Week program for 5th and 6th grade students.Students are presented with information which will enable them to Define, respond and evaluate problems concerning, Tobacco, Drugs, Alcohol, and peer pressure.The Hempstead County Sheriff's Department and the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney have teamed up to bring this program to the youth of Hempstead County.Both Prosecutor Christy McQueen and Sheriff James Singleton are very excited to get this program started.
"Our mission is to introduce the DARE concepts and to help reduce the temptations our school children face to use drugs and alcohol or become involved in violent activities,"says Sheriff James Singleton.
Deputy Barnhill is certified to teach the D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program in Elementary and Middle Schools.She was also certified as an S.R.O. (School Resource Officer).
Deputy Barnhill has worked for the Sheriffs department for the past three years and is assigned to Courthouse Security, and Warrants.She is a graduate of the Arkansas Law Enforcement Training Academy and holds a General Certification as a Law Enforcement Officer.
Deputy Barnhill will teach the 10 week D.A.R.E. Program to Springhill, Blevins, Saratoga, Garrett Memorial Christian School, and Hope Public Schools. 5th and 6th graders in the 2011-2012 school year.
