Jessica Power, was crowned "Miss Wyoming Teen 2011." She will be using D.A.R.E. as her platform. She is pictured with Miss Wyoming 2010. This program is the teen division affiliated with the Miss America system.
I am 15 years old and a sophomore at Cody High School. I am a varsity All-American Cheerleader and the Co-Captain for Cheer Dance, a member of National Honor Society, and an avid dancer. I am very active in the Congressional Youth Leadership Program and have attended JrNYLC and NYLC for several leadership conventions across the country. This summer, I will be attending the GYLC convention held in Europe.

Jessica wrote an essay and applied for and was selected as the Violet Richardson Young Women's Volunteer Award recipient for the local and regional Soroptomist's organization. She won $250.00 for herself and $250.00 for the volunteer program of her choice. She chose Wyoming DARE as her volunteer contribution organization to assist with funding and is pictured with Karen Hayhurst, who is serving on the Wyoming DARE Board.

In addition, Jessica spent countless hours writing letters and contacting her Senators and State Legislators, asking for support of a House Bill she helped write and create in meetings she attended with the Wyoming DARE Board. The bill passed and Wyoming DARE is receiving additional funding to support DARE in our state!! |
My ambition is to become a Prosecuting Attorney, advocating for abused and neglected children and their families. In addition to my academic and extra-curricular activities, I also compete in a variety of conservative pageant programs and have developed friendships with people all over the world.

Jessica spent a week at Cheyenne Frontier Days, as well as the WY State Fair, representing DARE and Miss Wyoming Teen of America. She discussed the impact DARE has on our youth encouraging them to remain drug, alcohol, and tobacco free. |
I am very honored to be selected as the 2010-2012 DARE Youth Advisory Board Representative and very excited to begin participating in school and community activities, spreading awareness and providing motivation and encouragement to the youth in my state.
I am a firm advocate of living a drug and alcohol-free life and will strive to help others remain drug, alcohol, and violence free throughout their lives.
DARE has taught me valuable refusal skills and that there are consequences for following the wrong path in the decisions I make. It has helped me understand that every decision I make will greatly impact my future.

Coming from a small town, I have observed the negative effects that drugs and alcohol have had on my peers and how these choices have affected their decision-making skills. As a leader, I believe it is my goal to encourage my classmates to live above the line and focus on their future, by making positive choices for today.

Although small in population, Wyoming, as with other states, faces the same issues of drug and alcohol use. My hope is to be the change-agent amongst Wyoming students, as I encourage them to develop positive decision-making skills in order to broaden their opportunities for a brighter future.

I look forward to representing the state of Wyoming and assisting in its endeavors to educate today’s youth, as they make positive life-changing decisions. I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to make an impact on my peers across the state and am very anxious to begin my role as the Wyoming DARE Youth Advisory Board Representative, working alongside other state representatives throughout the U.S.
