Hi! My name is Shyler Scates, and I proudly represent Maine's D.A.R.E. Youth Advisory Board. This is my first year on the board and so far so good. I am starting my sophomore year at Erskine Academy where I play multiple sports and keep busy with my education.
I find that keeping myself busy with lot's of activities keeps me away from having to make decisions on drugs or alcohol. I do many different activities such as soccer, basketball, golf, snowboarding, and baseball. I was also the vice president of my freshman class last year.
I was first exposed to the D.A.R.E. program in the 5th grade when Deputy Scott W. Cyrway came into our school and talked to our class about making right decisions. It effected me in many different ways, but so far it has helped me make the right choices in life. I hope to make that same dramatic effect on kids in my community, and beyond.
I am looking forward to the conference in Washington D.C. because I really want to know more about this program, and what I can do to help impact my peers and the kids in my community. |
