Scott Gilliam began his law enforcement career in 1973 with the Los Angeles Police Department and by 1974 he was already entering the world of youth and the drug culture as one of the first undercover officers to go into the high schools to buy drugs from campus dealers.
For seventeen of his twenty years in law enforcement he has been involved with helping children. Most notably in 1983 he was one of the founding D.A.R.E. Officers. After he retired from L.A.P.D. he joined D.A.R.E. America to promote and oversee the expansion of D.A.R.E. nationally and internationally. During his twenty-four years in the D.A.R.E. program he has been an integral part of curriculum development and training fidelity.
Currently as Director of Training, he is responsible for the assessment of D.A.R.E. training facilities, as well as coordinating national and international training teams. He and his teams have trained law enforcement officers across the United States and around the world. An expert on drug education and training technology, his communication skills have gained him the notoriety of an effective public speaker. |
