California police DARE officer Frank Caruso and Southern California teacher Irene Williams have published a children’s book in order to help build positive, lasting relationships between kids and cops.
"Let’s Meet Officer Frank" is a true story designed to teach preschool through third-grade level children that police officers are not only community servants who are there to help and protect them, but are human beings with their own unique families and interests.
Detailed illustrations and easy-to-read text enable children to see a police officer in both his on-duty and off-duty capacities.
"The media’s frequent sensationalism of law enforcement has led to many of today’s youth believing in a stereotyped character of police officers, " said author Frank Caruso. "Often, cops are not portrayed as approachable and caring individuals, but rather insensitive, gun-toting robots. This book helps show young people that we lead normal lives, just like they do."
Frank Caruso is a member of the Irvine Police Department in Irvine, California. With more than 15 years experience in law enforcement, Officer Caruso has held a variety of positions including patrol officer, Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E) instructor and gang officer/investigator.
