D.A.R.E. + P.L.U.S.

(Play and Learn Under Supervision)

By Charlie Parsons

President and Chief Executive Officer

D.A.R.E. America

Much has changed about the experience of going to school for the average youngster. Children from single parent families are no longer the exception and an increasing percentage of middle school aged children are “latch-key” kids who go home to an empty house with a television set as their babysitter.

The D.A.R.E.+ P.L.U.S. program is an answer to questions of what children are to do after they are taught how to resist drugs and violence life skills in the DARE program. The extended acronym which stands for "Play and Learn Under Supervision," truly expresses the extended goal that D.A.R.E. America is achieving.

D.A.R.E.+ P.L.U.S. programs are currently running in several areas of the United States. Campus programs in Chicago, Los Angeles, and Houston are each positively impacting thousands of kids.

In any of these positive and necessary P.L.U.S. programs throughout the country, students cannot receive guidance if there are not enough volunteers to teach and guide.
